HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer

I just got my new ink cartridges from HP instantink. I keep getting this error for the CYAN cartridge:  There is a problem with the supply system. Try replacing the affected cartridge with a different, non empty cartridge. I have no other cartridges. These new cartridges arrived today.  I unplugged the printer, no help.  I can't even print in Black & white because I can't get past this error.

Hi @Green-Goblin,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "problem with the supply system" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 can be frustrating, especially when you have just received new cartridges. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve this issue:

Steps to Resolve Supply System Error:

Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Make sure the cyan cartridge is installed correctly. Remove the cartridge and reinstall it, ensuring it clicks into place securely.

Clean the Cartridge and Printer Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Remove the cyan cartridge and gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridge.

Reset the Printer:

  • With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then back into the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and see if the error message has cleared.

Update Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes firmware updates can resolve compatibility issues with new cartridges.
  • Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest firmware for your printer model.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. This utility can help diagnose and fix many common printing problems, including supply system errors.

Check for Any Protective Tape:

  • Ensure that there is no protective tape or packaging material left on the new cyan cartridge. Sometimes a small piece of tape can be missed, causing the cartridge not to function properly.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Perform a hard reset of the printer. With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer. Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn the printer on again.

Try a Different Cartridge:

  • If possible, try using a different cyan cartridge. Even though the new cartridge just arrived, it could be defective. If you don't have another cartridge, you may need to contact HP support for a replacement.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
