HP OfficeJet 8022e All-in-One Printer

When using the "HP Smart Printing" printer option, while trying to print a PDF document from Adobe Acrobat, the printer just prints page after page, just one to three or four lines of random symbols and it will keep printing until I stop it or the printer runs out of paper.  Does this count all of these pages against my Print Count for my monthly Instant Ink subscription?  And also, are there any fixes for this?  I see that others have a similar issue, if not the same problem, for at least the last couple of years in this forum.  Most times, if I try the print job again, it then works and prints the document correctly while other times it repeats the same problem.  Page one of the errant print job does start out with actual words like, "%PDF-1.7 % Starting embedded TTF font 13 0 abj << /Length 14 0 R /Lenght1 14 0 R"

Hi @millerja75,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your HP OfficeJet 8022e printer when trying to print PDF documents. Here’s a breakdown of your questions and some potential solutions.

Print Count Against Instant Ink Subscription

  1. Print Count: Yes, those pages that print random symbols typically still count against your monthly print count in your Instant Ink subscription. Since the printer is processing the print job, it considers those pages printed.

Fixes for the Printing Issue

Here are several troubleshooting steps that may help resolve the issue.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or the HP website.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Make sure the printer is set to print from the correct source. Sometimes incorrect settings can lead to misprints.
  • In the print dialog of Adobe Acrobat, select the correct paper size and orientation.

Change PDF Viewing Software:

  • Try printing the PDF from a different application, such as Foxit Reader or even Google Chrome. Sometimes Adobe Acrobat can have compatibility issues.

Recreate the PDF:

  • If possible, try saving the PDF again or using a different method to create it. Sometimes, the way the PDF is generated can lead to compatibility issues.

Print as Image:

  • In Adobe Acrobat, you can try to print the document as an image:
    • Open the PDF, select File > Print.
    • In the Print dialog, click on Advanced, and check the option that says Print as Image.

Check Drivers:

  • Ensure that your printer drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the HP support website.

Clear Print Queue:

  • Sometimes, a corrupted print job can cause ongoing issues. Clear your print queue and restart the printer.

Network Connection:

  • If you're using the printer over a Wi-Fi connection, make sure the connection is stable. Sometimes network issues can affect printing.

Reset the Printer:

  • If nothing else works, try resetting your printer to its factory settings. Refer to your printer’s manual for instructions.

Reinstall HP Smart:

  • If you're using the HP Smart app, consider reinstalling it. Sometimes a fresh installation can resolve connectivity or compatibility issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
