I have an HP Officejet Pro 8034e

After a year of normal use and printing fine with multiple computers and cell phones the following is happening.

When any device clicks print the message pops up

"Connect the printer to the internet so the printer can automatically order replacement cartridges".

The OK button then has to be pressed for the print job to finish.

I have tried to search in settings and have turned off and on power and disconnected and reconnected the wifi.

Please advise how to get rid of this annoying issue.  Thanks.

Hi @SM19621,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

Are you enrolled in the instant ink program?

The message you're encountering on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8034e, prompting you to "Connect the printer to the internet so the printer can automatically order replacement cartridges," is likely related to HP's Instant Ink program or a similar feature that monitors ink levels and reorders cartridges when needed. Even if you are not enrolled in Instant Ink, the printer might still be checking for internet connectivity to update its status or receive firmware updates.

Here are steps you can take to resolve the issue:

1. Check Instant Ink Enrollment:

  • If Enrolled:
    • Ensure that your printer is connected to the internet, as this allows the printer to communicate with HP's servers to manage your ink subscription.
    • If you want to disable this feature, you might need to adjust your account settings in the Instant Ink portal.
  • If Not Enrolled:
    • Sometimes, the printer might still prompt for internet connectivity if it was previously enrolled or if the settings are configured to monitor ink levels.

2. Disable Web Services:

  • Turn Off Web Services:
    • On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Manage Web Services > Remove Web Services.
    • This will disable features like ePrint, and it may stop the message from appearing if it’s related to HP's online services.
  • Factory Reset Web Services:
    • If disabling doesn't work, you can try a factory reset of the Web Services, which can clear any glitches.

3. Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check for Firmware Updates:
    • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer, and check if a firmware update is available.
    • Updating the firmware can resolve software-related issues that might be causing the message to appear.

4. Reconnect to Wi-Fi:

  • Reconfigure Network Settings:
    • Sometimes, reconnecting the printer to Wi-Fi with a fresh setup can resolve connectivity issues.
    • Go to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Settings, and re-enter your Wi-Fi credentials.

5. Check Printer Settings on HP Smart App:

  • If you use the HP Smart app, check the app's settings for your printer. There may be a setting related to ink replenishment or notifications that can be adjusted to prevent this message from appearing.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the issue and prevent the message from disrupting your printing process.

If the issue persists after trying the above steps, it may be best to contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
