When trying to print a job from my HP laptop to my HP printer, the job is failing saying “wrong or unsupported file format”, I changed the file format and got the same message. I tried printing it from my phone and it did however not properly. What do I need to do to get it to print from my laptop?

Hi @KatieJiuditta,
Thanks for sharing the details.
- What file types have you tried printing (e.g., PDF, DOCX, JPEG), and do they all result in the same error?
- Are you using the HP Smart app or printing directly from an application (e.g., Word, Adobe, etc.)?
- Have you recently updated your printer drivers or your laptop's operating system?
Let's try these steps.
Ensure File Compatibility:
- Verify that the file format you’re trying to print is supported by the printer (common formats include PDF, DOCX, JPG, and PNG).
- Try opening the file in a different application and print from there to see if the issue persists.
Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Go to HP's official website and download the latest printer drivers for your HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e.
- Uninstall the existing printer drivers and reinstall the updated version to resolve compatibility issues.
Check Default Print Settings:
- On your laptop, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and ensure it is set as the default.
- Check if the correct paper size, type, and print quality settings are selected before printing.
Use HP Smart App:
- Install or update the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store, then try printing via the app, which often improves file compatibility and communication between your laptop and printer.
Reset Printer & Try Another Connection:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it for 30 seconds, and restart it.
- Try using a different connection method, such as USB instead of Wi-Fi, or vice versa, to see if the issue is network-related.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
