I have seen a couple of other threads with the exact same issue, however the solutions in them don't work for me and also they are relatively old so perhaps before the current iOS was released.  I suspect this is iOS related but it's driving me mad.

Printer is on the network, I've connected direct TCP and via AirPrint and get the same results.  Click Print, and I see the job appear in the queue, but then it vanishes without ever printing.  If I keep trying, I might get lucky after 10 attempts and the job prints, sometimes less, sometimes more, but this is consistent and driving me mad.

Anyone have any ideas?

I've also reset the printing system to no avail.

The only thing I haven't done yet is connect via USB purely because, as yet, I don't have a usb adapter since my MacBook is the new model

@chrisparkeruk, Welcome to HP Support Community!

To be able to assist you better, I'd like to know the following-

  • Are the printer and PC connected to the same network?
  • Is your router dual-band enabled i.e., both 2.4GHz and 5GHz?
  • What is the distance between the router and the printer?
  • Is there any antivirus software installed on your computer?
  • Could you perform a ping test using the Mac Network Utility and let me know the results?

Use the printer IP address to perform a ping test, the printer IP can be located by selecting the wireless icon on the printer display.

The wireless status menu on your Mac should also give us quite a lot of information that would help us identify the issue. You can press and hold option-click the WiFi icon and then use shift-command-5 to take the screenshot. Press the space bar when the icon turns into a camera. Share the ping test results and the screenshot with us.

Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.

Bonjour locates devices such as printers, other computers, and the services that those devices offer on a local network using multicast Domain Name System (mDNS) service records. The software comes built-in with Apple's macOS and iOS operating systems.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi,

Printer WAS right next to the router.  I also have another Epson printer that works 100% of the time. I also found a USB adapter and plugged the printer in to my Mac directly, and I still had the same issues.

I say WAS above because i gave up and returned the printer and got a refund.  I got more help from Amazon reviews than HP - and pretty much everyone that bought it for use with a Mac ended up returning it.
