This is an ongoing issue that I've had since this printer was new about a year ago. I have spent some time on the phone with HP support to no avail. Note that I am now using a USB cable to connect my laptop to the printer as there were issues with wifi connectivity that HP could not solve.

I send jobs to print and they just disappear. Sometimes they show up in the queue and sometimes they don't. And of course they never print.

Or they show up in the queue and sit there for as much as ten to 15 minutes.

I have tried to update the driver, but HP says it's up to date. I have turned the printer off then back on, unplugged and plugged it back in, restarted my computer. The problem happens over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Any assistance anyone has with this would be really terrific.

Hi @JReasoner ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already gone through quite a few troubleshooting steps, but let's see if we can dig a bit deeper.

Firstly, since you're using a USB connection now due to Wi-Fi issues, we can rule out potential network-related problems. However, there might still be issues with the printer's connection to your computer or the printer itself.

Here are a few more steps you could try:

  • Check USB Connection: Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected to both your printer and your computer. Sometimes a loose connection can cause intermittent printing issues.
  • USB Port: Try using a different USB port on your computer. Sometimes, USB ports can become faulty or have intermittent connectivity issues.
  • Printer Spooler Service: Restart the Print Spooler service on your computer. To do this, press Win + R, type "services.msc", and hit Enter. Locate the Print Spooler service, right-click it, and select Restart.
  • Print Spooler Cleanup: Sometimes, corrupted print jobs can cause issues with the print queue. Try clearing the print queue by stopping the Print Spooler service (as described above), navigating to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS, and deleting all files in that folder. Then, restart the Print Spooler service.
  • Printer Firmware Update: Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer. Sometimes, firmware updates can address various performance issues.Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • USB Cable Replacement: If possible, try using a different USB cable to connect your printer to your computer. A faulty cable could be causing communication issues.
  • Printer Settings: Check the printer settings, both on the printer itself (if applicable) and in the printer properties on your computer. Ensure that there are no settings causing delays or interruptions in printing.
  • Test with Another Device: If you have access to another computer, try connecting the printer to it and see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the printer or with your specific computer.

I have done all of this. Checked again today. No firmware updates.

I do not even begin to understand why, when I just want to print a document, I have to go through all of this about every three out of five times. Delete print jobs. Turn the printer on and off. Unplug it. Turn off spooler service.

Also, I have no idea what you mean by "check printer settings." That's so vague as to be nothing close to helpful.

I do not have access to another device to print.from.
