HP Deskjet 5150 Color Inkjet Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

A couple of weeks ago, Windows 10 updates were stuck & Microsoft reinstalled Windows 10 Pro. Since then my beloved HP Deskjet 5150 won’t work. Microsoft then reinstalled Windows 10 Pro, but I still can’t print. I’ve uninstalled & reinstalled the printer a few times to no avail.

The printer still works on my backup computer, but not my main desktop.

The printer worked for years, even on Windows 10, but not since Windows 10 Pro was reinstalled. The print jobs are momentarily visible in the queue, but then disappear.

I have the original setup disk, but can’t open it, even in compatibility mode.

Would really appreciate if someone can help me!

@H_John

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help.

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Let me know if this helps.

First of all, thank you! I’ve been dealing with this problem for a few weeks. Microsoft tried a couple of times, had no success, & has given up.

I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I like this Deskjet 5150 so much that I’ve bought a couple of spares.

This printer does works using my old laptop & worked fine on my desktop until June 18 when Microsoft reinstalled Windows 10 Pro.

I followed your instructions & then went to the HP support link you provided & went through the steps.

All seemed to be going well, but the test page didn’t print. I ran the Windows trouble shooter as advised, but it couldn’t identify the problem.

Devices and printers now shows a Deskjet 5100 as well as the default Deskjet 5150, but 5100 says driver is unavailable.

I ran HP Print & Scan Doctor (5.6.6) on the 5150, but it defaulted to & checked the 5100 & says full software not installed.

Since you’re an HP employee, is there any possibility that you or someone else at HP can remotely access my computer & help me get my printer working?

Thanks very much again.

Thank you once again for all your efforts, Betty. I’m absolutely thrilled to let you know my HP Deskjet 5150 is working again.

Sadly, I have no idea how what the problem was, or how I solved it. Before I called HP for phone assistance, I decided to keep trying.

I followed your steps to do a root uninstall & reinstall a few more times. I renamed the HPBXPSRENBER.DLL file, as a Microsoft agent had suggested to someone else online. I reset my print queue. I uninstalled various unused printers. I updated Realtek Semiconduct Corp. - USB driver from Windows updates. I cleaned the registry with Norton Utilities, etc., etc.

After working for days on this printer installation, when I started my computer this morning, the printer worked. I’d prefer to know how this got solved, but just extremely happy that it has been solved.

Thank you. John
