My print is coming out really really large. When I go to the print page it says my printer is 5510 d but on the outside of the machine it says 5514. I'm not sure which one to ask for help with but I can't find anything that has scale or fit to page or anything like that. Please help if you can.

Hi @maryannemcd

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Your printer is likely defaulting to an incorrect paper size or scaling setting, causing oversized prints. You can fix this by adjusting the scale or “fit to page” option in your print dialog and confirming the correct printer model in your system.

I understand how confusing it feels when your prints come out way too large and the printer name doesn’t match what’s printed on the device. Let’s bring clarity and control back to your setup:

1. Confirm your printer model

The name “5510 d” showing in your print dialog may be a driver label or a misidentified model. The physical label “5514” is likely the correct model.

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Right-click the printer listed as “5510 d” and select Printer Properties
  • Check the driver name and model number under the General or About tab
  • If it’s incorrect, remove the printer and reinstall using the correct driver from HP’s site:

2. Adjust scaling or fit-to-page settings

Oversized prints usually result from incorrect scaling or paper mismatch.

  • When printing, click Print > Printer Properties (or Preferences)
  • Look for options like:
    • Scale to Fit
    • Resize Settings
    • Page Setup
  • Set Scale to 100% or choose Fit to Page
  • Confirm the Paper Size matches what’s loaded (e.g., A4 or Letter)

If you're printing from a browser or PDF viewer, these settings may appear in the app’s print dialog instead.

3. Check default paper size in Windows

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners
  • Select your printer > Manage > Printing Preferences
  • Under Paper/Quality, confirm the default paper size is correct

4. Reset print settings

If scaling persists, reset the print settings:

  • Open the HP App
  • Select your printer > Printer Settings > Advanced Settings
  • Restore default settings under General > Restore Defaults

Once the correct driver is installed and scaling is adjusted, your prints should return to normal size. If you'd like help reinstalling the printer or testing a print job, I can guide you through that next.

You're doing the right thing by staying curious and proactive—let’s get your pages looking perfect again.
