Printer Changes Back to Monochrome and Doesn’t Print in Color

Greetings

Operating System: Windows 10
Computer Type: Dell XPS PC
Printer: HP Office Jet 4655

I have pretty much read all the related topics on your forum with the similar problem (but not quite the same) and tried all suggestions but unfortunately nothing worked.

Problem

This issue occurred only today. Before today, the printer could print in color. I tried to print a photo in color. I selected the proper settings. In print properties I switched:

Plain Paper to Photo Paper
Monochrome to Color

For some bizarre reason, when ready to print, it automatically switches back to “Plain Paper” and “Monochrome”; therefore, it will not print in color. Actually, nothing even documents can be printed in color.

To answer all the questions which you will ask next:

There are no error messages.
Inks are all HP inks.
I have not downloaded any new software lately.
I have no virus, worms or leech. The system is protected with firewall and antivirus.
There is no incompatibility issue

So far, I have done these tasks:

* I switched the “Let the app change my printing preferences” HP app button (on top left) to both “on” and “off” positions and tried printing in color. It failed.

* I uninstalled and reinstalled the HP Printing app

* I went to all printing options on HP app, computer control panel, computer devices and everywhere on the system which I could and did not find any option or seen anywhere that the default is stuck on black & white; therefore, could not change anything.

* As you mentioned in another topic, I also went to:

Print Properties => Paper / Quality => Advanced

But there was no option in “Advanced” to switch back and forth with grayscale.

* I could not find anywhere that the default is stuck on Black and White.

So basically, I am all out of ideas. Do you have any bright ideas?

Thank you very much kindly

AX

I Solved the Problem

Greetings

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have solved the problem! I uninstalled the application and reinstalled it but this time not from the web, yet from the CD. That solved the problem.

This should tell you that Old School is still better than New School. Companies should have never cancelled the CDs.

When I installed it from the web, it did not install the complete app. For instance, when I went to:

Print Properties => Paper / Quality

It did not even have the option of switching between B&W and Color, but now it does.

In addition, when printing photos, now it shows the color option (and stays on it) on the HP window but to tell you the truth, I did not switch back and forth between monochrome and color because I don’t want to risk it screwing up the software again! Seems like this HP app is very delicate and sensitive, so it doesn’t want me to fiddle with its feathers!

Another issue you need to know is that installing from CD, the desktop icon and the HP app design looks different than from the web.

I just wanted to bring these points to your attention so you may want to check the online app for issues. Also letting you know that the problem is solved.

I have discovered … like Columbus said!
