The printer will not go to the Home screen. The status bar just keeps going. It does not show any errors or problems.

Hi @AWilson-TT ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Color LaserJet Pro 3201dw is stuck in a loop where it doesn't load the home screen. This could be due to a number of potential issues, such as a software glitch, a firmware problem, or hardware malfunction. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Unplug the printer from the power source and wait for about 30 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

This can help clear temporary issues or software glitches that might be preventing the printer from booting properly.

2. Check for Jammed Paper

Even though you didn't mention any paper jams, it’s a good idea to inspect the printer for any potential blockages that could be causing it to freeze or not move forward in the boot process:

  • Open all paper trays and covers.
  • Check for any paper stuck inside, particularly in the toner compartment, output tray, or the area around the fuser.

3. Reset the Printer to Default Settings

If the printer is stuck due to a configuration issue, performing a reset might help:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Resume button (the button with a triangle icon) while turning the printer back on.
  3. Release the Resume button once the printer starts up.

This should restore the printer to its factory default settings.

4. Firmware Update Update the firmware on an HP printer

Outdated or corrupt firmware could cause issues like this. Check if your printer firmware is up-to-date:

  • Go to the HP website and search for the HP Color LaserJet Pro 3201dw.
  • Download the latest firmware version for your model.
  • Follow the instructions provided to update the firmware, either through the printer’s web interface (if accessible) or by connecting to your computer.

5. Network Connection Check

If your printer is connected to a network (Wi-Fi or wired), ensure that the connection is stable:

  • Disconnect and reconnect to the network to see if that helps.
  • If the printer is using Wi-Fi, try moving it closer to the router or use a wired connection to eliminate network issues.

6. Check Printer's Display

If the display is not showing anything, but you still hear sounds (indicating the printer is on), the issue might be related to the display panel itself:

  • Inspect the screen for any visible damage.
  • Try adjusting the brightness settings (if accessible via the buttons).

If the display appears dim or has lines, there may be an issue with the display hardware.

I hope this helps.

I unplugged the printer, waited, and plugged it back in and turned it on. This is the message that came up:

PRINTER ERROR OCCURRED

F0.01.05.03

PRINTER IS NOT FULLY FUNCTIONAL. CONTACT YOUR SUPPORT REPRESENTATIVE.

So the printer will be going back to the store it came from to get replaced.
