My LaserJet M234sdwe is offline with an orange exclamation point and the number 79. That error code is not in the list of error codes on HP. I have tried turning it off and unplugging it, unplugging the router and wifi and that didn't help. I have tried turning the HP Smart fix it (that didn't work three time yesterday, supposedly worked once later in the day and it printed one item, but today it is back to the same error code). Today it can't fix it.
When I turn off the printer, when I first turn it off the wifi blue light blinks and it acts like it will work, but then it goes back to the error code.
I tried to get help online through chat, to get to customer support, but HP doesn't recognize the serial number as being valid, so I can't actually get to anyone or add it as a product (even thought I copied the serial number from my devices under my account, and it matches what is on the printer. I feel like an exactly 2-year-old printer should be able to be located in their system.
I have liked Instant Ink, but I am not sure I want to get another HP printer if this is the junk I have to deal with when I have a problem. If my printer is toast, I think someone should be able to tell me that, or to tell me what I can do to fix it.

First remove the toner cartridge and then power off the device, unplug the cord for a minute. Plug back in and let start up without the toner installed. It should now come to ready. Install the toner and then from the control panel, go to network settings and turn off IPV6. It appears that a recent firmware update may be the cause and until a new release comes out, turning off IPV6 should allow you to print without interruption.

Repairatrooper, I followed the instructions which are the same as you gave except that I turned off IPV6 through the printer IP address (as someone else gave on another post about error 79) rather than through the control panel. The printer wouldn't print. I went and got an ethernet cable and plugged in the printer through the wife router, too, using the LAN suggestion. It still won't print. I tried the HP Smart diagnose and repair app. It went through its thing and found no errors.
According to the info on the printer accessed through my computer, it is online both through wifi and the ethernet cable (although now the wifi is off). I was able to print out the information sheet by pressing the i button; it says it is connected through ethernet and that wireless connections are unavailable when the printer is connected using Ethernet. That's fine, so long as I can print, which I can't.
So, seeing that you said to turn off IPV6, I looked on my computer control panel for the printer under ports and tried selecting a different port (I had to check something to uncheck IPV6), what worked was selecting LPT1. I guess I now need to set that up on every other computer that uses this printer. Given all this, you definitely helped, but perhaps what happened with me can help you clarify your future suggestions. What I am not clear on, is if this would have worked without the Ethernet cable if I had just selected LPT1 in the first place.

Repairatrooper, I see now that you were the one to suggest on "HP Laser Jet M234sdwe error code 79" to turn off the IPv6 through the printer's ip address. So really, between your two different pieces of advice, you helped me a lot. Thanks!
