Hi @Muin07
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error code ED.56.E6.57 on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9730 indicates a critical system error. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
1. Restart the Printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
2. Update Printer Firmware
Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. Since you’re using a MacBook, here’s how to check for updates:
- Open HP Smart on your Mac.
- Select your printer.
- Go to Printer Settings or Manage Your Printer.
- Check for any firmware updates and install them.
3. Check for Paper Jams and Obstructions
- Inspect the printer for any paper jams or foreign objects. Clear any obstructions you find.
4. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings
If restarting doesn’t help, consider resetting your printer:
- Go to the Control Panel on the printer.
- Navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
- Follow the prompts to reset.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Rachel,
I've followed the instructions in the first point, but unfortunately, I’m still getting no results. As for the second point, I checked the printer's firmware, and it’s confirmed as up to date. Regarding the third point, there is no paper jam or any obstruction.
The only step I haven't been able to complete is the fourth, as the error on my HP OfficeJet Pro 9730 remains on the screen and cannot be cleared, which means I cannot access the Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults section.
Could you please assist me, given that I live very far from the HP Office Center? It would take four days by boat to get there, and I urgently need to print. Thank you very much for your help.
Best regards,
Muin
