The printer wasn't used for a period of ~ 1 year. Then after placing new inkt cartridges, it refused to print magenta. After several cleaning tries with cleaning tries (with no result) I decided to manually clean the printhead according to Youtube films. After reinstalling the printer I get the following error messages   "There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off; then on. If problem persists contact HP".

I checked and double-checked the connection of the three flat cables, the two airtubes and the correct position of the decoder for the position of the carriage.

After searching the internet for this phenomen I tried hard reset several times with no result. HP Printer Doctor reported no problems.

What now ?

Many thanks for any answer.

Kind Regards

Pierre

@Pierre6,

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see from your post that you are getting an error message on your HP Officejet printer. Don't worry I'll be glad to help you.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Did it happen after a recent power surge or power outage?

Have you checked for any obstructions inside the printer?

Are you able to move the carriage freely?

Did you try to make a copy from the printer?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.

You can also update the Firmware, you can directly update the printer firmware from the printer control panel or download the software from our HP support website,

If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to check for the latest firmware update if available for your printer, using this website.  You might need a Windows PC to run the firmware.
