HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 All-in-One Printer

This is a repost from someone in December and the question was never answered but we are having the same exact problem with ours:

When powering the printer down, it remained in shut down mode for at least 30 minutes before I pulled the plug. When I powered it back up, I received the message, "Improper Shutdown. Notice: The printer was not turned off properly. To avoid damaging the printer, always press the power button to turn it off." Then it tells me "Paper Jam. Remove any jammed paper and make sure the paper tray is installed properly." Once I select OK to clear those errors, the printer attempts printer maintenance then I receive this message, "Printer Failure. There is a problem with the printer or print system. Turn the printer Off, then On. If you continue to get this message, contact HP. 0x6100004a."

I have checked all the input trays for jammed paper - there is none. I even sprayed canned air to see if I could dislodge it or at least see it wiggle - nothing.  I noticed the carriage tray is stuck on the right side. It moves a little, but will not move to the middle or left side.  I have watched multiple videos and followed all the instructions. I cannot clear these errors or get the carriage to move. What is next? I need my printer.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd love to help.

Let's try to reset the Printer here:

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Also, try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.

Also, try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168

Let me know if this helps.
