At least once a day I get the eject paper, wifi light, colour print and power light all stars to flash, this will start if I am using the printer or not or first thing in the morning. If I press the on / off button the printer will reset itself and work fine for six hours.
I cannot find any example of this in the HP help, if anybody has any ideas about what is happening please let me know.

Hi @FunnyHand1,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the issue you’re experiencing with your HP DeskJet 4120e, where multiple lights flash simultaneously and the printer resets upon pressing the power button, is unusual but could stem from the following:
Possible Causes:
Firmware Glitch:
- Outdated firmware can cause erratic behavior like unexplained flashing lights.
Power Supply Issues:
- Power fluctuations or an unstable connection can intermittently disrupt the printer's functionality.
Hardware Issue:
- A failing internal component may be causing the printer to enter a fault state.
Communication Error:
- Conflicts with the printer's WiFi connection or network settings could trigger an error state.
Paper or Mechanical Jam:
- Even minor obstructions or undetected paper fragments can cause persistent errors.
Steps to Resolve:
Update Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Open the HP Smart app on your Windows 11 computer.
- Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Firmware.
- Install any available updates.
Perform a Power Reset:
- Disconnect the printer from the power source.
- Wait for 2–3 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on.
Reconfigure WiFi:
- Perform a WiFi reset on your printer:
- Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons until the WiFi light starts blinking.
- Reconnect the printer to your network using the HP Smart app.
Check for Obstructions:
- Open the printer and inspect the paper path and rollers.
- Remove any debris or jammed paper.
- Ensure all cartridges are properly seated.
Change Power Source:
- Ensure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet instead of a power strip or surge protector.
Perform a Factory Reset:
- Press and hold the Resume button (triangle) for 10–20 seconds until the printer restarts.
- Reconfigure the printer as needed.
Monitor Behavior in Quiet Mode:
- Enable Quiet Mode via the HP Smart app to reduce power draw fluctuations.
- Go to Settings > Advanced Settings > Quiet Mode.
Refer to this document: HP DeskJet 2700, 4100, 4800 printers - Blinking lights and error codes
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
