@Orientalchic, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

The printer is not recognizing the black cartridge properly. This could be due to:

The cartridge not being seated correctly.

Dirty or damaged electrical contacts.

The cartridge is empty, expired, or incompatible.

The cartridge is defective.

Turn off the printer and unplug it for safety.

Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop moving.

Remove the black ink cartridge carefully.

Inspect the cartridge contacts (the copper/gold part). If they look dirty:

Gently clean them with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.

Let them dry for a few minutes.

Reinsert the cartridge, making sure it clicks firmly into place.

Close the access door, plug the printer back in, and turn it on.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
