I have a new HP LaserJet MFP M234dw Printer that was setup easily and prints beautifully.
Unfortunately, I'm trying to decide whether it needs to be returned. The printer will not stay in sleep mode and wakes up when not in use. Some days it wakes up (relays click and the lights turn on) every 5 - 10 minutes, and some days every hour or so. The printer sits in our office and the printer making random sounds throughout the day and night is a non-starter. We print infrequently (1 - 2 / week) and need a printer that is quiet and idle when not in use.
I've tried adjusting various energy savings settings and have since factory-reset it and fully uninstalled and reinstalled the client software. On the network, there is currently only one Windows 10 client using HP Smart and one Android device using the same.
The printer is connected to a 5GHz wifi signal and sits in the same room as the router.
Your help is appreciated; when it works, the printer is fantastic.

I recall another poster here with an M479 doing the same thing. This is most likely a network issue and a device is pinging the printer and causing it to wake up.

I've been monitoring the printer carefully today and realized that each time it clicks on, it has actually lost its network connection. The Wi-Fi symbol on the printer indicates that it's trying to reconnect. I've verified this by seeing the printer missing from the router's device list, additionally I can no longer connect to the embedded web server during this period.
This explains my second frustration with the printer; it is occasionally offline when I wish to print.
When connected, the printer's info sheet shows the wireless connection as excellent, and the router shows it with a -39dBm signal strength (about as good as it gets). I have a powerful router and no other network problems throughout the house.
Unfortunately, this means I have a bigger issue on my hands.
Any further thoughts out there? Thanks.
