Hello,

I have a HP Officejet 7612 printer that started to present the following error message: There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If the problem persists, contact HP. OEM ink is in use.

I have tried the following to resolve the problem:

1. Cleaned the metal contacts for each cartridge with a lint free cloth.

2. Dismantled the print head and reassembled it.

3. Perform a full NVRESET of the printer which fails at stage 4 of the process and presents the same error message I stated in bold.

The firmware is up to date.

Any assistance to resolve this problem would be appreciated.

I had the same issue and called their customer care.  Quite quickly, after diagnostic through the app, she told me that the printer head had failed and would I like to be put through to sales to buy a new printer.  Apparently, replacing the printer head costs more than the printer.  I politely declined the offer to buy another printer from HP.  Mine has always had HP cartridges and is low use (<10 pages per week on average) and was just over 5 years old
