Getting the error Printer Failure: There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists, contact HP.
I’ve tried turning off and on and replaced cartridges with no luck.

Hi @ssdeen,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Printer Failure: There is a problem with the printer or ink system" error on your HP OfficeJet 6700 Premium can be caused by several factors. Since you have already tried turning the printer off and replacing the ink cartridges, here are some additional steps to troubleshoot the issue.
Reset the Printer
Perform a hard reset to clear any temporary issues that may be causing the error:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the printer’s power cord from the electrical outlet and from the back of the printer.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the printer and outlet, and turn the printer back on.
Check the Ink Cartridges and Slots
- Ensure the cartridges are properly installed: Make sure they click into place and are seated properly.
- Clean the ink cartridge contacts: Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer where the cartridges sit.
- Examine for any ink or debris: Sometimes, ink residue or dust can cause an issue with the sensor, so clean the cartridge area thoroughly.
Check for Paper Jams or Blockages
- Open the printer’s access panel and check for any paper jams or obstructions in the paper feed area.
- Remove any jammed paper carefully.
Perform a Printer Self-Test
- On the printer’s control panel, press the Setup button (the wrench icon).
- Select Tools > Printer Status Report. This can help diagnose if there are issues with the printer’s hardware.
Perform a System Diagnostic
- Go to the HP Support website and search for the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. Download and run the tool to see if it detects any specific issues with your printer.
Firmware Update
- Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check and update the firmware through the printer's settings or via the HP Smart app on your PC or mobile device.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
