HP Officejet Pro 8630 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

We have a HP Officejet PRO 8630, it said to install a new black cartridge, and like we have been doing for 7 years, we installed a new cartridge. I have never had any problems with this machine, and it has been working great. It was working just fine moments before the  machine said the black cartridge needed to be changed. NOW I am getting a  message that says:

"There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists, contact HP"

This machine went out of warranty in 2017, so this is my last hope of finding an answer to get this back working.

What doesn't make since to me, is it was working great just seconds before I opened the machine to change the cartridge....

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have already tried everything the virtual assistant suggested, including updating the driver software.

Hi @MSDTL,

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are getting an error message "Problem with the printer or ink system" on your HP OfficeJet pro 8630 all-in-one printer.

I suggest that you follow the steps listed below to reset the unit:
1. Turn the printer on if it is not already on.
2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
4. Wait for 60 seconds.
5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
7. Turn on the printer if it does not automatically turn on.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a great day ahead.
