Hello, my HP 8028 e pro printer glass is in locked and will not lift up to expose the printer cartridges so I can change them.
How do you unlock or release the plate to access the cartridges? In all the videos I watched, everyone else is able to just open it right up. Thanks.

Hi @weskiaz,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the scanner lid or printer glass of your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 is stuck or locked, preventing you from accessing the ink cartridges. Normally, you should be able to lift it up without any resistance, but here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue:
1. Check for Obstructions:
- Ensure there are no objects (like paper or other materials) caught between the lid and the printer, which might be preventing it from lifting.
2. Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on. This can sometimes reset any internal locking mechanisms.
3. Manually Lift the Scanner Lid:
- If the printer is on a flat surface, try lifting the lid gently but firmly. Avoid using excessive force.
- Sometimes, the hinges may get stiff or stuck if they haven't been opened in a while. Carefully apply pressure from both sides, evenly lifting the lid.
4. Use the Release Latches:
- Certain models of HP printers have small release latches or buttons located near the hinges of the scanner lid. Check the back or sides for any buttons that may unlock the lid.
5. Check for Software-Related Locking:
- If the printer is performing a task like scanning, copying, or updating, it may temporarily lock the lid. Ensure the printer is not in the middle of any operation, and that it is idle before attempting to open it.
6. Perform a Hard Reset:
- Unplug the printer while it is on, wait for about 60 seconds, and then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any remaining power. Plug it back in and try again.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
