Hi @Sam2409,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP DeskJet 2600 All-in-One Printer series is having trouble detecting the cartridges, even after installing new ones and restarting the printer. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
May I know if you are getting any error messages, error codes or lights blinking?
1. Check Cartridge Compatibility
- Ensure the cartridges are compatible with your HP DeskJet 2600 printer. The compatible cartridges for this model are:
- HP 65 Black and HP 65 Tri-color (or HP 65XL for high yield).
- If you're using non-genuine or refilled cartridges, try switching to the original HP cartridges.
2. Clean the Cartridge Contacts
- Sometimes the connection between the printer and cartridges can be blocked by dirt or ink residue.
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
- Remove the cartridges.
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on both the cartridges and inside the printer (where the cartridges connect).
- Let everything dry for a few minutes, then reinstall the cartridges and power on the printer.
3. Reset the Printer
- Performing a reset might resolve the detection issue:
- Turn the printer on.
- Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet while the printer is still on.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer back on.
4. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- If your printer’s firmware is outdated, it may not recognize new cartridges. You can check for firmware updates using the HP Smart app:
- Open HP Smart on your computer or mobile device.
- Navigate to the printer’s settings and look for a firmware update option.
- If an update is available, install it and restart the printer.
5. Reinstall Cartridges
- Ensure that the cartridges are properly seated in the printer:
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Remove the cartridges, check for any obstructions, and reinsert them firmly until they click into place.
6. Test with Old Cartridges
- If you have old cartridges that worked previously, try inserting them to see if the printer can detect them. This can help rule out cartridge issues.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
