HP OfficeJet Pro 9012 All-in-One Printer

no chages to operating system or print driver  . It started about 12 months ago and is slowly getting worse, only when  scanning documents using document feeder. Normal Printing is fine. It is obviously something to do with document feed

If your printer is squeaking when using the document feeder specifically for scanning documents, but not during regular printing, it could indicate a mechanical issue with the document feeder. Here are a few steps you can take to address the problem:

Clean the document feeder: Sometimes, dust or debris can accumulate in the document feeder, causing it to squeak. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently clean the rollers and separator pad in the document feeder. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning.

Check for obstructions: Inspect the document feeder for any paper scraps, sticky residue, or foreign objects that may be causing the squeaking. Remove any obstructions carefully, ensuring not to damage any components.

John
