I set up the printer and set up instant ink and it printed fine the first few times, but now when I click print on the doc just as before,  it lets me select my printer (the only one there) and then it comes up with a progress bar saying validating, but always gives me a message saying  "Printer Validation Failed"  even though to my knowledge, I'm not trying to use eprint, as some other people with the same problem have reported.

I have the printer connected by usb to my PC and the printer itself is also wirelessly connected to my router (necessary for the instant ink setup) but my PC isn't wireless, I just use an ethernet cable. It's my first printer and I don't need to use eprint or anything, I just want to print docs from my PC.

Hope someone can help!

I had already downloaded the software, but I actually managed to fix the problem by changing the default printer. During the setup process for instant ink I think the printer added a new printer name, it was originally only 'HP DJ 3630 series' but afterwards there was also 'Hp eprint+jet advantage'. I think the problem was that the second one was set as default, when I changed back to the 1st one it no longer attempted to 'validate' and now just prints.

I am confused as to why this happened, is the second name necessary for eprint services or something similar?

Hi supa1, my name is Lisa and I'd like to help.

Have you installed the full feature software and driver? It sounds like the issue has to do with the driver itself. If you have't installed the software please do, you can obtain it from here: www.123.hp.com

If you have installed the software please run the HP Print and Scan Doctor and let me know the outcome of your efforts: www.hp.com/go/tools

Thanks.

Talk to you soon.

It sounds like that second one was added by the operating system. It is not the driver that should be used and I'm glad you got it sorted out. 🙂

So I can safely ignore the second one? I just wanted to know if it was added by the OS, was it in error (as in a different but existing model of HP printer) because the icon for the printer was very different, it was black (my printer is white, and the original name carried the correct icon with a pic of my printer). If so should I ignore it or somehow delete it?

It's not hat it was added in error, but when you connect the USB cable the Mac finds a driver for you to use until you Install the appropriate driver.

You can actually delete it, think of it as a generic driver, that's why it looks different than your printer. If you select it so it is highlighted you can click the minus button below. 🙂

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8715 and it is brand new wireless printer. The first time I tried using the HP ePrint option from my laptop it gave me the same printer verification error message you seem to have had (it had printed fine using iphone). I tried what you did by changing the default to the 8715, which had been set to a different printer in my home that was not wireless so I'd been using a USB cord. This did the trick, it works great now and I don't have to use HP ePrint. Thank you!
