Hi, I have just installed a new HP black cartridge (63/302).  The cartridges come from HP Instant Ink.  I have never had a problem before but now the alignment page is printing but with missing text and then this is not scanning.  Error message is 'alignment page is not detected'.  By pressing OK, I am now in draft quality and the print is unreadable.  Just half a line appearing.I have cleaned the copper strip with a lint free cloth, turned the power off, removed the power cable, taken the cartridges out, but still not working.

Hi! @Saturday_01

Have you tried checking with regular different ink cartridge?

Are you using HP genuine ink cartridges?

Make sure that the paper type is appropriate and then reload the paper

It looks like the alignment is not successful due to which you have issues using the printer.

You have to complete the alignment process in order to skip the alignment page printing.

Try few steps recommended below.

Turning the printer off, and then on again might resolve Alignment issues.
Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
   NOTE:
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Aligning the ink cartridges correctly aligns the printhead with the printer. Align the printer from the printer control panel, then evaluate the results.

  1. Make sure to load the input tray with plain, white paper.

  2. On the printer control panel, swipe the display to the left, and then touch Setup.

  3. Touch Tools.

  4. Swipe up on the display, then touch Align Printer.

    An alignment page prints.

  5. Wait for the alignment page to fully eject from the printer.

       NOTE:

Before a print job, the printer automatically extends the output tray extender. Do not push in the output tray extender until the print job is complete.

  6. Lift the scanner lid.

  7. Place the alignment page with the print side down on the scanner glass. Position it according to the engraved guides around the glass.

  8. Close the scanner lid, then touch OK

The printer aligns the ink cartridges.

  9. Try to print again.
