I have an issue with this new printer we have got. It was working fine and is used in a small home office by 2 computers. Now on one of the computers it always shows the printer as out of paper, even though there is plenty paper in the machine. The other computer connected does not show this issue and prints without issue.
I have tried everything to get the computer to print. I have power cycled the printer, computer, replaced all the paper, checked for jams and even reset the pc that isn't working and still the same issue has occurred. I used HP Smart to set up the printer with no issues but straight after the test print the same issue came up. I have no clue what the issue is made even more confusing by the fact the other printer connected is working fine. The printer is connected by a LAN connection if that helps.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your response Alden4 I have unfortunately tried all of the above to no avail however I am please to let you know at the moment that I managed to avoid the issue by removing HP Smart and all associated apps. The printer now appears to be working fine with no issues so there must be something with HP Smart causing a conflict on my system.
Thanks for the info.

Hi @Ihihiihihoihh8h,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like there may be an issue specific to the computer that's showing the "out of paper" error, rather than the printer itself. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue.
Check Printer Status on the Problematic Computer:
- Open the Control Panel.
- Go to Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8124e printer and select See what's printing.
- Make sure there are no error messages or documents stuck in the print queue. If there are, cancel all documents.
Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Go to the HP website and download the latest drivers for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8124e.
- Uninstall the current printer drivers from the problematic computer.
- Reinstall the new drivers you downloaded and follow the setup instructions carefully.
Check Printer Settings:
- Open Devices and Printers again.
- Right-click on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8124e and select Printer properties.
- Go to the Ports tab and make sure the correct port is selected for your LAN connection.
- Ensure the printer is set as the default printer.
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP website. This tool can automatically diagnose and fix many common printing issues.
Verify Network Connection:
- Ensure the problematic computer is properly connected to the same network as the printer.
- Try pinging the printer from the computer to verify the network connection:
- Open Command Prompt.
- Type ping [printer IP address] and press Enter.
- Check if the computer can successfully communicate with the printer.

Check for Software Conflicts:
- Disable any firewall or antivirus software temporarily to see if they are causing the issue.
- Ensure there are no other programs or services that might be interfering with the printer's communication.
Try Printing from a Different Program:
- Sometimes, the issue might be with the specific application you are trying to print from. Try printing a test page from another application like Notepad or Word.
Re-add the Printer:
- Remove the printer from Devices and Printers.
- Add the printer again by selecting Add a printer and follow the setup instructions.
Check Paper Settings in the Print Dialog:
- When you go to print, make sure the paper size and type settings match what is loaded in the printer.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be helpful to check the printer's firmware and ensure it is up to date. You can update the firmware through the HP Smart app or the printer's web interface.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi,
I have a problem with my new HP OfficeJet Pro 8124e printer. It works fine with one computer, but the other computer always says the printer is out of paper, even though it has paper.
I have tried turning the printer and computer off and on, replacing the paper, checking for jams, and resetting the computer. I used HP Smart to set up the printer, and it worked fine until after the test print. The printer is connected by a LAN cable.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks!

I have and HP ENVY. Printer pool says It has no paper (It means photographic paper), but from normal paper, the printed have. But when i try to print it says, no paper. I click on PRINT, see print dialog. Next to Printer name select box, is ADVANCED button.
I click on it, and find the option
PRINT AS IMAGE
is active
I deactivate. Click ACCEPT
and PRINT,
and it works.
