HP Smart Tank 7301 All-in-One

My 7301 bricked at random 4 months after getting it.  Spent about 30 minutes with support doing all sorts of futile troubleshooting things (that I had already done anyway, but I get that they have to go through the process) and ultimately wa approved for warranty replacement, but they want me to send it back before they'll send the replacement.

That means I have to find packaging, box it up, and somehow drain the ink tanks (they're just sending a new printer - no new ink) then send it back?  Anyone had to deal with this before?
Thanks In advance for any ideas...

J

Typically they will send  you the replacement first, but will ask for a CC number to ensure that you return the old printer. I have never dealt with a smart tank so I am not sure how to answer the ink question.
