Hello, I have a Samsung SCX3400 printer and MacOS Sonoma 14.6.1. Is there any solution for the driver?  It gets stuck and says "Filter" failed

Hi @DZ58,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering a common issue with printers on macOS, particularly with older models or those that might not have updated drivers. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the "Filter failed" issue with your Samsung SCX3400 printer.

Update macOS and Printer Software

Ensure both macOS and your printer's drivers are up to date. Samsung might not have official drivers for newer macOS versions, but it's worth checking their website for any updates or patches.

Reinstall Printer Driver

  1. Remove Existing Printer: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your Samsung SCX3400, and click the minus (-) button to remove it.
  2. Download Driver: Visit the Samsung website or the HP support page (since Samsung printers are now managed by HP) and download the latest driver compatible with your macOS version.
  3. Install Driver: Follow the installation instructions provided.

Use Generic Printer Drivers

If you can't find a specific driver, macOS provides generic drivers that may work:

  1. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Click the plus (+) button to add a printer.
  3. Select your Samsung SCX3400 from the list.
  4. Choose Generic PostScript Printer or Generic PCL Printer if available.

Reset Printing System

Sometimes resetting the printing system can resolve issues:

  1. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Right-click (or Control-click) in the list of printers and select Reset printing system.
  3. Re-add your printer after the reset.

Check System Logs

To get more details about the failure:

  1. Open Console.app from the Utilities folder.
  2. Look for log entries related to your printer when you attempt to print. This might provide more insight into what is causing the filter failure.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
