I have HP Envy 4500 Inkjet that has started to cutting off top and bottom of pages (PDF).

I have installed all the updates, done the printer calibrations, tried "fit to page" etc, checked the paper settings (A4), checked the paper feed, restarted the printer both the soft and the hard way, and finally the factory reset. But the problem still remains.

Best,

Leif

Hi @Leif-the-Viking,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 4500 Inkjet printer is cutting off the top and bottom of pages, particularly with PDF files, despite trying several troubleshooting steps, here are additional steps to resolve the issue:

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

Check Page Size Settings in PDF Viewer:

  • Open the PDF file in your PDF viewer (e.g., Adobe Acrobat Reader).
  • Go to File > Print.
  • Ensure the Page Size is set to A4.
  • In the print dialog, select Fit to Page or Shrink Oversized Pages.
  • Ensure that Actual Size is not selected unless the PDF is exactly A4 size.

Adjust Print Margins:

  • Open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat Reader or another PDF viewer.
  • Go to File > Print.
  • Click on Page Setup and check the margins. Make sure they are not set too large.
  • Try setting smaller margins to see if this resolves the issue.

Print from Another Application:

  • Try printing the PDF from a different application (e.g., a web browser or another PDF reader) to see if the issue persists.

Update or Reinstall PDF Reader:

  • Ensure you have the latest version of your PDF reader installed.
  • If you already have the latest version, try uninstalling and reinstalling the PDF reader.

Check Printer Settings on Computer:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (or Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners).
  • Right-click on your HP Envy 4500 and select Printing Preferences.
  • Ensure the paper size is set to A4.
  • Check the Layout or Page Setup tab for any settings that might affect the print area, such as scaling or margin settings.

Print a Test Page:

  • Print a test page from the printer’s settings menu or from your computer's printer settings.
  • Check if the test page is also cutting off the top and bottom. This can help determine if the issue is with the PDF file or the printer settings.

Adjust Print Settings in Printer Software:

  • Open the HP Printer Assistant or HP Smart app.
  • Go to Print & Scan > Print > Printer Preferences.
  • Check for any settings related to page scaling or margins and adjust them accordingly.

Try Different Paper Type/Quality Settings:

  • In the print dialog, try selecting a different paper type or print quality setting to see if it affects the printout.
  • Sometimes selecting a different paper type (e.g., plain paper, photo paper) or quality (e.g., draft, normal, best) can change how the printer handles margins and scaling.

Update Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for firmware updates on the HP Support website.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Ensure no other software on your computer is interfering with the print job. Close all other applications before printing.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
