HP Envy 4500

My printer was working fine last week now all of a sudden it is cutting off the top of the page when printing.  I have done multiple resets, cleaned the feeder and reinstalled the drivers and the problem seems to be getting worse.  It happens with plain paper and cardstock.  At first it was simply the top margin getting cut off resulting in the bottom margin being 2 inches, now each time i try to rememdy the problem, it cuts more off the top.  I have trying holding the paper as it feeds pushing slightly thinking it is not grabbing it right away but it seems to grab it instantly and pull through.  Not sure what else to do. I do not want to get a new printer but i am a teacher and NEED my printer to work properly.

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Envy 4500 Printer. I understand that it is cutting off the top of the page and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well.

  • Check the print settings.
  • Print a Print Quality Diagnostic report.
  • Examine the Print Quality Diagnostic Report for defects.
  • Clean the ink cartridges.
  • Align the printer.
  • Manually clean the area around the ink nozzles.

Click here and refer the document to perform the above steps.

Let me know if that helps.

Cheers.

The quality of the ink is great.  The problem is it begins printing on the paper's top edge, as though there is no top margin.  I followed each step you listed and it is still happening. My concern is it may not be feeding properly, but it grabs and feeds the paper automatically and the alignment pages print perfectly as i had an old one to compare it to.  The alignment page is not missing the top margin but the quality report is. I have tried multiple types of paper with the same result.

Hi @alibee3681,

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that the print quality diagnostic page also has the same issue.

It looks like you were interacting with @sandytechy20, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.

I suggest that you follow the step by step guide listed below to reset the printer:

1.Disconnect if there is any fax or USB cable connected to the unit and then turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

2.With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

3.Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

4.Wait at least 60 seconds.

5.Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

6.Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

7.Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on. The printer might go through a warm-up period.
8.Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

If the issue still persists, please contact HP phone support from this link: www.hp.com/contacthp
You may select the country and type the product# of the unit and then follow the on-screen instructions to contact HP phone support.

You have a good day ahead.
