HP DeskJet Plus Ink Advantage 6475 All-in-One Printer

My HP Deskjet plus printer model 6475 always produces the error code E1 when I try to print. The code is easy to clear but any print job produces this error. I've reset to factory settings, checked that the paper size matches for each print job, used the same size paper that I always did before when it did print. I've unplugged the printer and waited to see if it would reset itself, the error comes back again with any print request. I used to be able to print from either a laptop or iPad but can't now. I've tried just using the HPSmart app to print, used the print function in documents, all result in the error code E1. My iPad is now stuck on printing small photo size, so any print job prints in small format with no option to change to another paper size. I have ensured the printer software is up to date with no additional updates available. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi @Deelor7212

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The persistent E1 error on your HP DeskJet Plus Ink Advantage 6475 indicates a mismatch between the paper size settings and the actual paper loaded in the printer.

Since you've already tried several steps, let's explore additional solutions to resolve this issue:

1. Verify Paper Size Settings

  • On your laptop or iPad, ensure the paper size in the print settings matches the paper loaded in the printer (e.g., A4, Letter).
  • In the HP Smart App, go to Print Settings and confirm the correct paper size is selected.

2. Reset Default Print Settings

  • On your laptop:
    • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click your printer and select Printing Preferences.
    • Reset all settings to default and ensure the paper size matches the loaded paper.
  • On your iPad:
    • Clear any saved print settings by restarting the app or device.

3. Align Paper in the Tray

  • Remove the paper from the input tray and reload it, ensuring it is aligned properly.
  • Adjust the paper guides to fit snugly against the paper without bending it.

4. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds, then press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to discharge residual power.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  • Visit the HP Support website to check for firmware updates for your printer. Firmware updates can resolve known issues and improve functionality.

6. Test with a Different Device

  • Try printing from another device (e.g., a different laptop or smartphone) to determine if the issue is specific to your current devices.
