My printer will not print barcodes or QR codes properly. It will print the outline of them but not print the full shapes of them. Is there something wrong with my printer?
The ink is full, as the rest of the printing label or tickets print off ok.

I have the HP deskjet plus 4100 series.

Welcome to the HP User Community.

Printer is OK -- Printer does not understand barcode data.

What?  Some content cannot be translated correctly.

The fix is to save / print in a format that does not require the printer to understand / translate the content.

Suggestions:

Save the data as a PDF file and Print as Image

OR

Snip the content you want to print from your screen > save as an image (.jpg) file > Print that

References / Resources

PDF - Print as Image

Reinstall / Update your PDF Reader (Adobe Reader DC /Optional  Foxit Reader)

  • HINT:  Watch out for and UNCHECK unwanted extra software
  • Adobe Reader DC software should be installed even if you do not open / view / print PDF files directly from the software.

If the file will not print due to unusual content (odd fonts, color schemes, tables, other oddities), print the file as an Image.  Image printing does not require the printer software to translate file content.

  • Save the document to your computer
  • Open the offending document in Adobe Reader DC
  • Click Print icon > Set other options on the menu > Click Advanced button
  • Set the printer select the colors (Optional)
  • Select Print the PDF file as an image

Snip content from the screen

Avoid Screenshots altogether – Capture what you want from the screen.

Create a Snip of the information on the page > save the snipped image as a .jpg file > print that file.

Windows 11 >> Snipping Tool is very similar Snip

Windows Start > Search for and open Snipping Tool

You may need to have a font installed on your computer or printer that supports that barcode format.

Well, that is something I've not heard of.

Cool.  Hope that is all that is necessary.

@Dragon-Fur 's method will work if are simply looking to print an image, however is you are trying to print natively from a bar code application then you will  need a bar code font as stated in my first post.

Definitely we need a right font for example

                https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Libre+Barcode+128

I used to have a barcode font on one of my machines back to the old days when we could get new machine and printer under Expert program. Not now.  I could also use that font to type in Word or Excel ... - Not the following way

So I have tried all the steps...  Snipping tool, installing barcode text, printing as an image in Adobe.  I have uninstalled the printer and apps / drivers, restarted laptop, then reinstalled everything and still it has this same issue of not printing the full barcode just the outlines of it.   So any other suggestions would be helpful, cause I am about to buy another printer brand....

oh it also does it with certain text.. it will give the outline of the text but will not fill it in if it is black.
