HP Deskjet 2510 All-in-One Printer

The power switch is on permanently, and can only be switched off at the mains socket.  It will not print.  There is an exclamation mark lit up by the number window.  I put a new black cartridge in and ink level check shows both empty?

Hi @Bonzo7,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like your HP Deskjet 2510 All-in-One Printer might be experiencing multiple issues related to power, printing, and ink levels. Here’s a series of troubleshooting steps you can try.

Restart the Printer

  • Unplug the printer from the power socket.
  • Wait for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Plug the printer back in and switch it on.
  • Check if the exclamation mark and other issues persist.

Reset the Printer

  • Perform a reset by unplugging the power cord from the printer without turning it off.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds, then plug the power cord back in.
  • Turn the printer back on to see if the exclamation mark clears and the printer functions properly.

Check Ink Cartridge Installation

  • Ensure that the new black cartridge is correctly seated in the printer. Sometimes improper installation can lead to issues.
  • Remove the cartridge, clean the copper contacts gently with a lint-free cloth, and reinsert it.

Ink Level Reset

  • If the printer still shows empty ink levels, try removing both cartridges, then reinstall them to refresh the ink detection.
  • Sometimes, a new cartridge may not be detected correctly, so you may need to clean the ink contacts or try a different cartridge if available.

Check for Paper Jam or Blockage

  • Ensure there is no paper jam or obstruction inside the printer that could be causing the exclamation mark to appear.
  • Open the printer and check for any debris or paper fragments.

Update Printer Drivers

  • If you haven't recently updated the printer drivers, it’s a good idea to do so. Visit the HP website to download the latest drivers and firmware for your HP Deskjet 2510.

Check Power Button or Power Supply Issues

  • If the printer's power button is not responding, it could indicate an issue with the power supply or button itself. Check if the printer is receiving adequate power or if a power surge protector is causing issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Dear Rachel 1571 & Alden 4.  Thank you both so much for your detailed assistance.  Following your instructions, I have now got my printer working again.  ~The only thing I failed on was to update latest drivers.  It must be too technical for me, as it just does not work.  Anyway, thank you both once again.
