My HP Office jet 4500 printer started making this cranking noise before each print job but it would still print.  Then I needed to change the black ink and after I did so I received a message that it was waiting to align the cartridges but then never did.  So turned it off and back on to clear that message and now when I try to print anything it draws the paper in halfway and then says "waiting" to print and then never does.  I've tried reinstalling ink cartridge, disconnecting and reconnecting power source, running troubleshooter, printing test page (same issue) and printing  menu map (same issue-didn't print) all with no luck.  It just feels like something needs to be reset?  Is there a fix or time for a new printer?  Thanks.

@Miladymuse, Welcome to HP Support Community!

 

This could be because of the alignment failure, I'd suggest you follow the steps from the document Alignment Errors to isolate and resolve the issue.

 

Also, Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

 

Try printing.
