My problem is that my printer is dropping the connection to my pc, but it is not a simple / typical connection so please bear with me as I give those details.
My PC is connected to my modem directly via ethernet. The printer is connected to the pc via a separate router- not the modem. (I do not know why, but the printer will not "see" the modem, so it connects to a router in another part of the house.) It communicates just fine to my pc when it is connected, but I suspect that when the printer goes to sleep it drops the connnection. I have to then manually connect to the printer by clicking on my network in the taskbar, then on the printer. Each time I do this I check "connect automatically" but it does not connect automatically and drops the connection whenever the printer is idol for any time.
I know that the issue may be based on the need for a static IP address, but I am worried about following the accepted solution for this when my network connections are not typical. Can anyone give directions for this specific network situation?
Also, I was going to attempt the accepted solution but when I entered the IP address for the printer, it will not connect on my browser. I don't know if this is because my pc is not connected to the router that my printer is connected to, or maybe some other reason?
If you got this far, thanks for your time- I do appreciate it.

Thanks for clarifying.
Your router do support 2.4GHz or 5GHz and it is not a dual band router, I would more than assume it is set to 5GHz which explains why multiple printers do not see it.
From your router homepage access the Wireless tab and select Radio, from there ensure the 802.11 Band is set as 2.4GHz, see Page 58 of the user guide.
Once applying the changes run the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer again and look for your router.

Hi,
From your description I would assume connect the printer wirelessly and not with an Ethernet cable?

Which modem is it? what is it's brand and model? does it offer any wireless capabilities?
Does your model have a sifferent SSID name than your other router or may both have the same SSID name?

Thank you for helping, ShlomiL. Yes, that's correct. It is connected wirelessly to a Netgear router.
The modem is a UBee eMTDA D3. Yes, it offers wireless capabilities and several other devices are connected to it, however, I have had 2 printers that do not see it.
The router and modem have different SSID names.

May it incldue any additional naming, model number, etc.?
I could not locate the exact model on either Google or Ubee sites:
http://www.ubeeinteractive.com/products/cable
It is possible that this is a Dual Band router, if so ensure it is set to broadcast at a 2.4GHz band with a unique SSID than the 5GHz band, your printer supports 2.4GHz only and will not see a 5GHz WiFi band which may explain why it wouldn't see it..
Hope that may help,
Shlomi

Yes, it does have another name. It is DVW3201B. Here's the link to the manual. https://www.timewarnercable.com/content/dam/residential/pdfs/support/WirelessRouters/Ubee_DVW3201B_v...
I can't tell if it's dual band or not, or whether it's 2.4 or 5.

You are a genius, Shlomil! That is exactly the issue. I am now connected to my modem! Would it be safe for me now to follow the directions for creating a static IP so that I can solve the dropping connection issue?
Also, I read the manual page that you directed me to and it said that 2.4 Ghz would provide a greater distance coverage than 5, so you may also have solved an ongoing and terribly annoying issue of needing an extender when more than 15 feet from that modem, so I may owe you a great thank you for that also.
Thank you thank you thank you.

You are much welcome @alligaulin, great I have been able to help!
Fixing the IP Address of the printer would always be recommended.
Cheers,
Shlomi
