Hi @Risetta24,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the E1 error on the HP DeskJet 2722 (and other HP 2700 series printers) usually indicates a paper size mismatch. However, since you've confirmed the paper size hasn't changed, let's troubleshoot to resolve the issue:

Steps to Resolve the E1 Error:

Check Paper Size in Printer Settings:

  • Ensure the paper size settings on your computer match the paper loaded in the printer.
  • For Windows:
    1. Open the document you're printing.
    2. Click File > Print > Printer Properties or Preferences.
    3. Set the paper size (e.g., Letter 8.5 x 11 inches or A4).
  • For Mac:
    1. Open the document and select File > Print.
    2. In the Paper Size dropdown, confirm the correct paper size is selected.

Align the Paper Properly:

  • Remove the paper from the input tray.
  • Fan the stack of paper to prevent sticking.
  • Adjust the paper guides snugly against the stack without bending the paper.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 2-3 minutes, then reconnect and power it back on.
  • Try printing again.

Check Firmware:

  • Outdated firmware can cause printing errors. Update your printer's firmware using the HP Smart app:
    1. Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
    2. Select your printer and check for firmware updates.

Clear the Print Queue:

  • Cancel all print jobs in your computer's print queue.
  • Restart your printer and attempt to print a simple document.

Clean the Paper Sensors:

  • Dust or debris can block the sensors that detect paper size. Use a dry, lint-free cloth to clean:
    • The rollers in the paper input tray.
    • The inside of the printer where the paper passes through.

If the Problem Persists:

Even though your printer is out of warranty, you can:

Check for Driver Updates:

  • Download the latest driver from the HP Support website.

Hard Reset:

  • Unplug the printer, hold the power button for 30 seconds, and then reconnect it.

Manual Firmware Reset:

  • Hold the Cancel and Resume buttons for 15 seconds while powering it back on to reset settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
