Hi @Risetta24,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting the E1 error on the HP DeskJet 2722 (and other HP 2700 series printers) usually indicates a paper size mismatch. However, since you've confirmed the paper size hasn't changed, let's troubleshoot to resolve the issue:
Steps to Resolve the E1 Error:
Check Paper Size in Printer Settings:
- Ensure the paper size settings on your computer match the paper loaded in the printer.
- For Windows:
- Open the document you're printing.
- Click File > Print > Printer Properties or Preferences.
- Set the paper size (e.g., Letter 8.5 x 11 inches or A4).
- For Mac:
- Open the document and select File > Print.
- In the Paper Size dropdown, confirm the correct paper size is selected.
Align the Paper Properly:
- Remove the paper from the input tray.
- Fan the stack of paper to prevent sticking.
- Adjust the paper guides snugly against the stack without bending the paper.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait 2-3 minutes, then reconnect and power it back on.
- Try printing again.
Check Firmware:
- Outdated firmware can cause printing errors. Update your printer's firmware using the HP Smart app:
- Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
- Select your printer and check for firmware updates.
Clear the Print Queue:
- Cancel all print jobs in your computer's print queue.
- Restart your printer and attempt to print a simple document.
Clean the Paper Sensors:
- Dust or debris can block the sensors that detect paper size. Use a dry, lint-free cloth to clean:
- The rollers in the paper input tray.
- The inside of the printer where the paper passes through.
If the Problem Persists:
Even though your printer is out of warranty, you can:
Check for Driver Updates:
- Download the latest driver from the HP Support website.
Hard Reset:
- Unplug the printer, hold the power button for 30 seconds, and then reconnect it.
Manual Firmware Reset:
- Hold the Cancel and Resume buttons for 15 seconds while powering it back on to reset settings.
