HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 All-in-One Printer

My OfficeJet Pro 9018 displays error code 01B3B8E6 upon powering up. I tried to disconnect power for a few minutes, plug directly into an outlet, and connect cable to the printer. Get the same error code consistently. I cannot do a factory reset from the menu because there is no menu, only the blue screen error code is displayed.

I need help to perform a factory reset while the printer menu is unavailable.

Thank you.

Hi @Taajo,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you getting an error 01B3B8E6 with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

Here's how you can try to perform a factory reset:

  • Unplug the Power Cord: Ensure the printer is turned off by unplugging the power cord from the back of the printer. Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Press and Hold Certain Buttons: While keeping the power cord unplugged, press and hold the '#' and '3' buttons on the printer's keypad.
  • Plug in the Power Cord: While still holding down the '#' and '3' buttons, plug the power cord back into the printer. Keep holding the buttons until the printer turns on completely.
  • Release the Buttons: Once the printer turns on, release the '#' and '3' buttons. The printer should begin the reset process.
  • Wait for Initialization: Allow the printer to complete the reset process, which may take a few minutes.
  • Test the Printer: Once the reset is complete, try using the printer again to see if the error persists.

Thank you for trying to help but the instructions don't work because the printer does not have a keypad. There is no way to enter the combination that you suggested. Could you provide factory reset instructions for my actual printer – OfficeJet Pro 9018?

The private message that says that "we cannot help after the troubleshooting steps above" and provides me with a UK phone support number definitely does not help (I am in the US to start with).Note that the "troubleshooting steps above" do not apply to my printer, it simply does not have physical buttons to push.

I need a simple answer on whether there is a way to factory reset my printer, which does not have any physical buttons besides the power button, in the situation when the menu screen displays a "blue screen of death" and an error code.

Hi @Taajo,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The factory reset can only be performed if the screen is working fine, as the screen is stuck it looks difficult to perform the reset. I have shared the steps if you wanna give it a try.

To restore the printer to the original factory defaults
1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the
Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).
2. Touch Printer Maintenance .
3. Touch Restore.
4. Touch Restore Factory Defaults.
A message appears stating that the factory defaults will be restored.
5. Touch Continue

If the printer fails to perform these steps then it must be a hardware issue. In that case, I recommend reaching out to our phone support for further assistance.

They can help you with the unit repair or part replacement.

I request you talk to HP Phone Support and they will help you to sort it out as it requires advance support or repair.

1. Click on this link -  https://support.hp.com/us-en

2. Select the country.

3. Enter the serial number of your device.

4. Select the country from the drop-down.

5. Click on "Show Options".

6. Fill out the web form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Please feel free to contact us here anytime you need any further assistance.

Have a great day!

For others reading this thread – from my experience looks like when HP responds that they will send you a solution in a direct message, that means that they don't have a solution.
