E6 error with all lights flashing. The stock answer of unplugging has been tried many times and does not work. Problem arose after a paper jam but there is no paper stuck in the printer.

Sometimes "E6" is not shown, instead the number display shows random dots.

Hi @jkjlk,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The E6 error on an HP printer, especially when accompanied by flashing lights and sometimes random dots on the display, typically indicates a hardware issue related to the print head or an internal component. Since you’ve already tried unplugging and restarting the printer without success, here are some additional steps you can take:

**1. Check for Paper Jam Thoroughly

  • Recheck for Paper: Sometimes small bits of paper or debris can cause issues. Open all accessible compartments and carefully check for any remnants of paper.
  • Check the Paper Path: Look inside the printer’s paper path (usually accessible through the back) to ensure there’s no paper stuck inside that might be hard to see.

**2. Inspect the Print Head and Cartridges

  • Remove and Reinstall Print Head: Turn off the printer and open the access door to reach the print head. Remove the print head and cartridges, then carefully reinsert them.
  • Check for Obstructions: Look around the print head area for any obstructions or debris that might be causing the error.

**3. Reset the Printer

  • Hard Reset: Perform a hard reset of the printer. Turn it off, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Factory Reset (if applicable): Some printers have a factory reset option. Refer to your printer’s manual or the HP website for instructions on performing a factory reset.

**4. Check for Internal Issues

  • Inspect Internals: Look inside the printer for any loose or disconnected parts. Sometimes internal components can become dislodged.
  • Listen for Unusual Noises: When turning the printer on, listen for any unusual noises that might indicate a mechanical issue.

**5. Update Firmware

  • Check for Firmware Updates: Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve error codes. Check the HP website for any available firmware updates for your printer model.

**6. Clean the Printer

  • Clean the Print Head Contacts: If you can access the print head contacts, gently clean them with a soft, lint-free cloth. Be careful not to damage any components.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
