I have a new HP ColorLaser Jet MFP M283fdw (CCD39F). I have been able to install the printer on my computer, but the touchscreen is blocked on the settings screen. I have tried to unplug and disconnect the printer multiple times, but I haven't found a fix. I have tried to update the firmware, but I keep getting the error message that the "Device is busy. Please wait till the end of process and try again."

I would appreciate any help.

Hi @RealMadrid1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Color LaserJet MFP M283fdw is displaying a "Device is busy" error during a firmware update and the touchscreen is unresponsive, here are some troubleshooting steps you can take:

Step 1: Power Cycle the Printer

  1. Turn Off: Power off the printer.
  2. Unplug: Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait: Leave it unplugged for at least 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect and Power On: Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer. Check if the touchscreen becomes responsive.

Step 2: Reset to Factory Settings

  1. Access Settings: If the touchscreen becomes responsive, navigate to the Settings menu.
  2. Restore Defaults: Look for an option to Restore Factory Defaults. This may help clear any locked settings.

Step 3: Check for Hardware Issues

  1. Inspect for Obstructions: Open the printer to check for any paper jams or foreign objects that could be blocking mechanisms.
  2. Check Cartridges: Ensure that the toner cartridges are properly installed and not causing any blockages.

Step 4: Update Firmware via USB

  1. Download Firmware: Go to the HP Support website and download the latest firmware for your printer model.
  2. Use a USB Drive: If the touchscreen is still unresponsive, you may try updating the firmware using a USB drive:
    • Format a USB drive to FAT32.
    • Copy the downloaded firmware file to the USB drive.
    • Insert the USB drive into the printer and follow any on-screen instructions (if available).

Step 5: Try a Different Network

  1. Connect via Ethernet: If you're using Wi-Fi, try connecting the printer directly to your router via Ethernet. This may help during firmware updates.
  2. Different Wi-Fi Network: If possible, connect the printer to a different Wi-Fi network to see if the error persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
