Hi,
Unable to complete any print jobs that I send to my printer deskjet 3630 from my MAC (OS X 10.11 El Capitan). It was working fine for years and suddenly stopped working. The error message is "Filter Failed".
The printer is working fine with AirPrint and Wi-Fi- Direct from other devices.
I've tried re-installing the HP Printer software to no avail. The driver version installed is HP Inkget 9 Driver 2.16.0.
Please help.

Hi @APohl,
I'd like to help!
Follow the steps below:
Remove the printer
- Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
- Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign(-)to delete the printer.
- If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button (-) at the bottom of the list.
Add the printer
- If your printer is connected to your Mac with a cable, disconnect the cable from your Mac.
- Turn off your printer.
- Get software updates for your Mac. Your Mac automatically downloads the latest software for most printers as part of these updates, so it's best not to install software from the printer manufacturer.
- Reconnect your printer to your Mac, if applicable.
- Turn on your printer and wait for it to finish starting up.
- Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences, then click Printers & Scanners.
- Select your printer in the list of devices.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for trying to help. Unfortunately, it didn't work.
I successfully deleted the printer, then tried to check for software updates for the Mac. It shows there are no updates but that's probably because my Mac is very old (about 15 years).
This led me to the Apple support website for downloading by product, so I downloaded the one for HP Printers v5.1 for MacOS.
I then reinstalled the printer. During the process, the test page didn't print. I continued the installation nonetheless and tried to print.
It didn't work, the error message in the printer box says "Filter" failed.
The pop up error message says Problem report for Inkjet "Inkjet9 quit unexpectedly." I've sent the report to Apple.
Any other ideas?

Try updating printer firmware
To update the printer's firmware, refer - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
Uninstall HP Easy Start
- Click on Spotlight icon and type HP Uninstaller or by opening HP Easy Start.
- Click on Continue to uninstall the software.
- When prompted for Password, type in your system password
- You can also uninstall by opening HP Easy Start.
Download HP Easy Start and install the printer.
- Download HP Easy Start and follow the on-screen to complete the installation.
Let me know how this goes!

Hi,
I did everything you suggested but it didn't work. Still the same error.
While executing the various steps, I now have a new problem. A pop up message appeared saying that there is a "scanevent handler" downloaded. I revealed it in Finder and see that in addition to that new file, there are 2 other items downloaded: "HPPU Plugins" and "quick connect software agent".
Are these safe? Are they necessary?

I have never turned the mac filtering on. I read that this is tech talk to send me chasing my own tail, please can you escalate this to someone else if you are not able to help me?
The thing is, it has been working for years and this issue suddenly came up a few weeks ago so it doesn't seem logical to link it to the ISP.
Can you also please have the courtesy to answer my question about the "scanevent handler" that was downloaded when I followed your suggestion?

Scanevent handler is not an HP Application.
Were you able to add the printer using airprint?
Could you check your router settings, to see if it was enabled by your ISP recently?
Meanwhile, try the steps below -
Uninstall HP Easy Start
- Click on Spotlight icon and type HP Uninstaller or by opening HP Easy Start.
- Click on Continue to uninstall the software.
- When prompted for Password, type in your system password
- You can also uninstall by opening HP Easy Start.
Download HP Easy Start and install the printer.
- Download HP Easy Start and follow the on-screen to complete the installation.
Let me know!

I suspect the scanevent planner was downloaded because I ticked the box for web support when I reinstalled the software. It subsequently became a HP Event folder and customer agent files.
As I said from the start of this chat, Airprint works.
I had already uninstalled and reinstalled the software after you suggested it in your 2nd reply. Which didn't work.
Anyway, for the benefit of others who might encounter this problem, I'm happy to report that it has been resolved. I reset the printing and deleted every "HP" I found in the Finder. I then added the printer again, logged in as another user & voila.

You may uninstall the scanevent holder if you'd like ..
I am glad the issue is sorted.
