I have replaced two brand new black HP cartridges and keep getting the error message that they are empty. I am trying to print something today so I can copy it. I have to distribute the info tomorrow. Because of COVID quarantine, I can't go and buy a new printer.

Hi @Witgob

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I understand you are not able to print. Apologies for the inconvenience caused. I'd be happy to assist you.

Try making a standalone copy and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware

On the printer screen, go to Setup > Printer maintenance > Update the printer

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Make sure the protective plastic tape if any is removed from the new ink cartridge before inserting it in the printer.

If the issue persists, perform step 3 from this document.

To resolve any error related to the ink cartridges, you may refer to the above-attached document.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I tried all the alternatives on the HP site before I posted on here. I just went through the response and tried everything there.

The error message "K There is a problem with the supply system. Try replacing the affected cartridge with a different, non-empty, cartridge. If message reappears again, record."

I can't do any copy or resets because I can't get the home screen up.

@Witgob, that's unfortunate. If the issue persists, please contact our HP Support team for Service Options as it could be a possible hardware issue:

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.

6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
