HP Officejet 6700 Premium e-All-in-One Printer - H711n

I got a printer failed alert “There is a problem with the printer or ink system”. I unplugged and turned the printer off but the alert keeps coming up. I have all new cartridges but still having the issue. I saw an option on here to do a partial reboot. Can you please sent me the instructions to complete this or any other ideas what I can try?

Hi @Dan1587

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with an ongoing issue on your HP OfficeJet 6700. Even with new cartridges, the error message "There is a problem with the printer or ink system" can persist if the printer’s internal settings are confused or there's a problem with the ink system components. Here’s how to address the problem, including performing a partial reboot and some other troubleshooting steps.

1. Perform a Partial Reboot (Reset)

The partial reboot process can help reset the printer’s internal components and potentially clear the error. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait for 60 seconds to let the printer fully power down and reset.
  3. While the printer is unplugged, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. This will help drain any residual power and reset the printer’s internal settings.
  4. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

This simple reset can often clear out some minor system glitches. Check if the error message disappears after you do this.

2. Check for Ink System Issues

Even though you've replaced the cartridges, there could still be issues with the ink system itself (e.g., the printhead or the connections). Try the following:

  • Remove the ink cartridges and turn the printer on again without them. If the error message goes away, then the problem is likely with one of the ink cartridges or the printhead.
  • Reinsert the ink cartridges carefully, making sure they’re seated properly in their slots.

If you notice any leaks or visible damage to the ink cartridges or the printhead, it might require replacement.

3. Clean the Printhead (Manually)

Sometimes, the printhead can become clogged or dirty, which can cause ink system errors. Here’s how to clean it:

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall.
  2. Open the printer's front panel and gently remove the ink cartridges.
  3. Remove the printhead carefully (check your printer’s manual for how to remove it).
  4. Use a damp, lint-free cloth to clean the contacts of the printhead and the printer’s carriage area.
  5. Once everything is clean and dry, carefully reinstall the printhead and cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
