Hi @maria9999,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
We're sorry to hear your HP OfficeJet 8600 is displaying a "Printer Failure" message after installing a new ink cartridge. We understand how frustrating this can be, and we’re here to help resolve it.
This type of error may be triggered by an issue with the cartridges, printhead, or a firmware miscommunication. Please follow the steps below to clear the error:
Step 1: Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord (from both the back of the printer and the wall outlet).
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (bypass surge protectors).
- Turn the printer back on.
This helps clear residual error codes in the system.
Step 2: Reinstall the Ink Cartridges
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Remove all cartridges carefully.
- Gently wipe the electrical contacts on each cartridge with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
- Reinsert the cartridges firmly until they click into place.
Step 3: Check the Printhead
- With the cartridges still removed, lift the latch and gently remove the printhead.
- Check for ink buildup or debris.
- Clean the electrical contacts on the printhead using a soft cloth with distilled water.
- Allow to dry for 10 minutes, reinstall the printhead, secure the latch, and reinstall the cartridges.
🔁 Power on the printer again and see if the error clears.
Step 4: Update Firmware (If Accessible)
If the printer becomes operational, immediately update the firmware:
- Go to HP Smart or HP OfficeJet 8600 Series Printer Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
- Download the latest firmware for your OS.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
