Many of my user settings are locked, and the message I receive says "The feature has been locked by the person who set up the printer." The printer is used in my home by only my wife and I. Perhaps we set it up wrong, but we need access to the various settings. Right now, it won't connect to my wireless network because of some changes I made, but the Wireless Setup Wizard is inaccessible to us.

Let's try restoring the printer to the original factory defaults

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).

2. Touch Printer Maintenance .

3. Touch Restore.

4. Touch Restore Factory Defaults. A message appears stating that the factory defaults will be restored.

5. Touch Continue.

If the issue persists, we will try the Semi-Full Reset.

Since these are crucial steps, I will send you a Private Message with the instructions

Please check your private message icon in the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile.

Next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it

Thank you 🙂

I have had my HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 for a couple of years now. All of a sudden nearly all the features are grey'd out and when I select them (try to) I get a message noting "locked by the person who set up...". Well, as with other posts, I, the owner certainly did not lock anything. I cannot even select the 'Restore" as it is also grey'd out. Please help!!

I this did not work.  I need to do an advanced reset.  I have a MAC.

All settings are grayed out. Unable to hit reset at all. I need this printer to be completely reset by you. HP Officejet Pro 6978. Please help me with a 100% workable fix. TY

I have this same issue. Can you send me the details please

Even the "Restore Factory Defaults"  is grayed out so I can't use these instructions.  Is there any sort of physical hard reset mechanism?
