Photosmart 6520

The printer feeds paper continuously when given a print instruction.  It usually jams during this event.  I have used online support and have cleaned the rollers and checked for any small pieces of paper, but this has not fixed the problem.  The cleanout door does not seem to be warped and the small rollers are present and springy.

Hello @Janecs

Appreciate your efforts 🙂

You do not need to do any troubleshooting steps on the printer if it made a good copy. If the printer can make a good copy, that means that the printer hardware is good. The issue here could be with the printer drivers or applications that you are using to print. Try the steps below to try and fix the issue:

·         First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.

·         Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Photosmart printer entries and uninstall them.

·         Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.

·         Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.

·         Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.

·         Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

·         Restart your computer.

·         Now, click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL43742/mp-108722-3/PS6520_1315-1.exe to install the updated software.

·         Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Now try to print and check. Try printing from multiple applications as well.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Cheers 🙂

Hello, @Janecs – Greetings!

Thanks for joining the HP support forums! I will certainly do my best to help you with your printer issue 🙂

Going through your post, I understand that you are facing issues while feeding the paper on your Photosmart 6520 printer. Appreciate all your efforts in cleaning the rollers and other steps!

I would suggest performing a power drain on the printer. Here are the steps:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now, I want to try and make a photocopy on the printer to further isolate the issue. Place a document face down on the scanner glass and press the copy option on the printer control panel. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

Thanks, I'll watch for your reply!

Good luck 🙂

Thank you for this suggestion.  I tried the power drain first, before any of the cleaning.  The only thing I did not do was to press the on button on the printer while it was unplugged, to drain any residual charge.  Do you think I should try again?  It is very awkward doing this, as the wall socket is behind a heavy chest of drawers!  In the meantime, I will attempt a photocopy.

It has made an excellent copy and is not attempting to feed more paper.  When I printed a document earlier, the second page printed immediately and the printer then fed through the remaining paper and did not print the first page.
