I can give you some guidelines based on my experience:
Do not make the mistake of purchasing a budget printer. Inexpensive printers, of any brand, do not provide the features and options needed to print on different kinds of Media (kinds of paper), they may not be able to handle Custom Paper Sizes (a must when you are printing on "odd" or custom sized cards / paper), and less expensive printers do not provide the same excellent print quality as do the more expensive, higher grade printers.
Purchase a higher grade Officejet Pro printer that provides options to print on cardstock, photo paper, and other Media types (brochure, presentation papers).
Make sure your printer supports "Automatic Duplex".
Make sure your printer supports Custom Paper Sizes.
Look at a Printer that you like, then open the Support pages for it, and look at the Specifications page.
Open Support Home
Enter the name of your device (a printer you "like")
When the website support page opens, Select Category Product Information > open and read the Specifications document.
Want more information??
When the website support page opens, Select Category User Guides > open and read the User Guide document. "Dry reading" it might be; the User Guide tells you what the printer will do and what to expect from the device.
EXAMPLE (Look at the specifications for the 8720, 8730, 8740 - the 8710 is the "little brother" and lacks some of versitility and options available in the other models. The 8740 series is "top of the line".)

Armed with the "best", look at the Online store - compare models.
IF you like:
Contact the online HP Sales Representatives via phone or (if available in your region) Chat.
ASK questions.
Online Sales is there to help you decide which device is best for you.
No one wants to sell you a printer you will dislike - buying a device you hate never ends well for anyone.
(This is true for any reputable brand - good companies want customers to be happy.)

If this becomes "just too much" to think about, take your nice invitations to a print shop and have the job done professionally. Less stress, less worry, less work, and "Poof! Another item off the list."
