HP ENVY Photo 7858 All-in-One Printer

My printer gives me an error that it is out of paper, yet it is not. I've reloaded paper, checked the physical alignment, looked for jams, etc. Nothing gets it to print. What could be wrong? The second time I retried after removing the plug and turning it off, I got a message that the warranty has expired.  Is this a physical problem or is it the expiration that has caused the printer not to work.

Hi @Ajowa,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer is showing a message that it’s out of paper despite having paper loaded, and you've already checked for jams and alignment, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Check Paper Size and Type Settings:

  • Ensure that the paper size and type settings in the printer settings match what you have loaded in the tray. Mismatched settings can cause the printer to think it’s out of paper.

2. Inspect Paper Tray:

  • Remove the paper tray and check for any obstructions or debris that might interfere with the paper sensor.
  • Make sure the paper is loaded correctly and not overfilled.

3. Clean Paper Feed Rollers:

  • Dust and debris can accumulate on the paper feed rollers, preventing proper feeding. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water to gently clean the rollers.

4. Check for Paper Sensors:

  • If accessible, check for the paper sensor inside the printer. It may be dirty or malfunctioning. Gently clean it if possible.

5. Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset any errors.

6. Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check for firmware updates on the HP Support website. Sometimes, software issues can cause miscommunication between the printer and the computer.

7. Use Different Paper:

  • Try using a different type or brand of paper to see if the issue persists. Sometimes, the printer may be sensitive to certain paper types.

8. Test with Another Device:

  • If possible, try printing from another device to see if the issue is specific to your computer or the printer itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
