I have ab HP 8600 printer. I just replaced one of the ink cartridges and now I get an error message. I did the turn off and back on routine, and the unplug and replug routine. Still get the error message and no home screen. Help. ( iknow it is an older printer but have not had any issues before now)

@JeannieAS, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Remove & Reseat All Ink Cartridges
Even if only one cartridge was replaced:
Power off the printer.
Open the cartridge access door.
Remove all cartridges (not just the new one).
Inspect contacts (copper/gold contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer).
Gently clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth and a bit of distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
Reseat all cartridges firmly — a loose cartridge can trigger errors.
Run HP Smart:
- Download and run the HP Smart. Follow the prompts to diagnose and fix common printing issues.
- Refer: Use Diagnose & Fix in HP Smart to repair common printing issues (Windows, macOS) | HP® Support
Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)
- Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
