macOS 12.0 Monterey

I'm running macOS Sonoma 14.5, but there was no choice for that in the operating system drop down menu.

 

My HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw printer makes all of the print noises, indicates that it is waiting for the job to complete, then stops and eliminates the print jobs from the queue as if the print jobs is complete. But it is not actually printing. It also does not keep the job in the queue, so it thinks it did print, but nothing happens. I've unplugged and re-plugged, off/on'd it. It has all new ink cartridges and there is paper in the tray.

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue where your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw printer indicates that the print job is complete, but it doesn't actually print anything. This can be frustrating, but there are a few steps we can take to troubleshoot the problem:

Check Printer Connections: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer or network. If it's a wireless printer, make sure it's connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. Additionally, try using a different USB cable or connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Restart Printer and Computer: Sometimes, simply restarting both your printer and computer can resolve temporary issues. Turn off your printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. Similarly, restart your computer and try printing again.

Check Printer Settings: Make sure that your printer is set as the default printer on your computer. You can do this by going to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners on your Mac and selecting your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw as the default printer.

Clear Print Queue: There might be a stuck print job in the print queue preventing new jobs from printing. Open the print queue on your computer and cancel or delete any pending print jobs. Then try printing again to see if it resolves the issue.

Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your Mac. You can usually download them from the HP website or through the macOS Software Update feature.
