We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
When your HP printer fails to print black despite having a full cartridge, and prints only in grayscale, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:
Check Print Settings:
- Ensure that the print settings do not have "Print in Grayscale" selected. To check this setting, open the printer Properties dialog box, navigate to the Features or Color tab, and make sure that "Print in Grayscale" is not selected.
Check the Ink Cartridges:
- Verify that the black ink cartridge is correctly installed and functioning. Remove and reinstall the cartridge to ensure it is securely seated.
- Clean the ink cartridge contacts to remove any debris or ink buildup. Use a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water and clean only the copper-colored contacts.
- Align the ink cartridges after reinstalling them to ensure the best possible print quality.
Inspect the Cartridge:
- Confirm you are using a genuine HP cartridge. Non-HP or refilled cartridges can create print quality issues.
- Inspect the cartridge's gold-colored metal contacts for scratches or damage. If damaged, consider replacing the cartridge.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Go to the HP support website and check for any available updates for your printer firmware. Updating the firmware can resolve bugs or compatibility issues.
Clean the Printer:
- Print a Print Quality Report to identify any print quality issues like streaks or smears. Follow cleaning procedures according to the report results.
- If streaks appear, perform a printhead cleaning. If smearing appears, clean the rollers.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
